Why Us?

The Great Outdoors

There’s no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing
At Meadow Lane Children’s Nursery, we believe that children thrive in the great outdoors.
Outdoor play gives children the chance to connect with the natural world, gives them first-hand experiences of life and growth, endless opportunities for creativity and imagination and improves their health and physical development. These countless benefits of outdoor play have an immensely positive impact on children’s lives.

Our open outdoor policy ensures that our children have the choice to play and learn outside or inside as much as they desire. We allow the children to move freely between our indoor and outdoor play spaces, ensuring that they are well supervised and safe. This means that the children’s play is not hindered by strict timings and allows them to become fully immersed in their learning and discovery.

We ask that children are provided with waterproof overalls and wellies to wear when the weather is really wet, so the children can squelch through the mud and splash in puddles.

We believe that a real experience of the great outdoors will inspire children and encourage them to love and respect nature for years to come.

Forest School

Forest School is an inspirational process, that offers ALL learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands-on learning experiences in a woodland or natural environment with trees.

Forest School:

  • is a long-term process of regular sessions, rather than a one-off or infrequent visits; the cycle of planning, observation, adaptation and review links each session.
  • takes place in a woodland or natural environment to support the development of a relationship between the learner and the natural world.
  • uses a range of learner-centred processes to create a community for being, development and learning.
  • aims to promote the holistic development of all those involved, fostering resilient, confident, independent and creative learners.
  • offers learners the opportunity to take supported risks appropriate to the environment and to themselves.
  • is run by qualified Forest School practitioners who continuously maintain and develop their professional practice.

Healthy Eating

Here at Meadow Lane Children’s Nursery, we provide children with a fantastic opportunity to learn about healthy and delicious food, the children spend time in our kitchen Garden with our Farm Horticulturalist and Kitchen staff learning how fruit and vegetables grow, what they look like and how they taste and feel. Children help prepare each of our meals in our Farm kitchen, teaching them about safety, hygiene, and basic cookery skills.

Our meals are planned and home-made in the Farm Kitchen each day by our experienced Cook’s. Eggs are provided by our chickens and collected by the children and our fresh fruit and seasonal vegetables are grown on the farm by our wonderful staff and the children.

Farm School

We believe a Farm is a wonderful environment in which children have the opportunity to play, get involved and learn about the animals and the important place they hold in our lives. Research has shown that children who have been exposed to farm animals from a young age tend to be better listeners and develop integrity and compassion for the world around them.

We allow the children to interact with the animals, understand the hard work of Farm Life, learn about the seasons on the Farm, growth of vegetables and produce that they will then use in cookery sessions, be involved in chick hatching, rearing, feeding and maintenance of all our animals, including our pigs, goats, Guinea pigs, Chickens, ducks and Rabbits

Our Children are given the opportunity to work alongside our fantastic team and develop life skills, invaluable experiences as well as an understanding of the farm to fork process.
